Online Class

So we just finished our online class. I want to start by saying it was pretty great.
Social media as we discussed has become a major part of our lives nowadays. I'm not really sure if it always the best thing in the world because it seems as if people depend on it so much but it is what we all use. (at least most of us). There are many different ways of marketing through social media and if you want to be successful and market then social media is a very good resource to use. Of course it will take some hard work but it is possible. You will have to build a following and prove yourself to be reliable and relevant because no one really wants to follow a boring and irrelevant person. The power of the link as mentioned is a good thing to me. I certainly look for links to stories and media all day long. Sometimes I prefer not look around and really search for info but through links I'm able to find pretty much anything that is available. For example. I follow ESPN and  many other sports pages and links to sports stories are the way I stay on top of things if I'm not around a television.
As we are in this class working on a Media 2.0 project we will all find out what it takes to reach a certain level of marketing and gaining a following. Links, word of mouth, putting it out there and maybe just a bit of chance will probably determine how much notoriety our different projects gain. Hopefully a lot! But I do know that it will require a little work.

  1. I agree with you. It definitely takes hard work for getting just a little bit more awareness. Especially the start of a project is very difficult. You are unknown and don’t have the experiences how you could handle that. How can you persuade people? How do you get more popular? Which social media channels should be chosen? In my opinion it is also significant, that you know the “right people”, who could help you to get more popular, such as gatekeepers or opinion leaders.

  2. Daniel - Yea of course knowing the right people and what those people know about you.... You get more popular when the "right people" or popular people on Twitter mention you or ask their followers to follow you.

As Danny said it will take work from those who are running the social media account to build that credibility and they must research and watch how other credible accounts behave and follow in those footsteps as long as they fit the target market.
